Favorites of 2019
Counting down some of my 2019 favorites…
As usual, I am sitting here staring at 2020 wondering how we got here. Not sure about you, but I find myself wanting to grab time and make it sit still…make it last longer. But, since that isn’t a reality, I’m heading into a new year with the mission to be more mindful; to be more intentional about soaking in each moment that I’m given. Because maybe that’s why we all feel like time is traveling so quickly…because we are so distracted with the ‘what’s next’ that we forget to embrace the present.
Aging is inevitable but also a gift (see my lessons learned below). I feel as I grow older, I’m becoming more aware of how very precious time really is. I find myself more aware of how the people that have been entrusted to me should be valued, cared for, and loved well because time is so irreplaceable. I’m thankful for the perspective that 2019 gave me and the foundation it laid for the coming year.
Tradition is tradition, so I’m sharing my favorites from products to meaningful moments. Make sure to share your favorite finds with me…
FAVORITE TRAVEL EXPERIENCE: It wasn’t long, but on our trip to South Carolina, we spent time in Savannah, GA. It’s filled to the brim with charm, history, and local pride. I fell in love with their city squares, beautiful eateries, and streets lined with rows of Spanish moss. It’s definitely on my list to get back there in 2020.
FAVORITE TV SHOW: Fell in love with Boy Meets World all over again. I remember watching it when I was in junior high, but it still holds up…thanks Disney+.
FAVORITE HIGHLIGHT: A weekend in Detroit for Doug’s birthday. Dinner on the patio as the world goes by. A stroll through the market. Discovering fun local shops. Walking through the city at night. He makes the most normal events feel special.
FAVORITE PODCAST: A few…
Slow Burn, Season 2 (on Clinton’s presidency and Lewinsky scandal) and Season 3 (on Tupac/Notorious B.I.G.)
30 for 30 on Donald Sterling and in general
It was done in December of last year but I listened to it this year…Believed by NPR Michigan Radio.
And of course, The Popcast for when my heart needs some cheer
FAVORITE SONG: Loved the entire album No. 6 Collaborations Project by Ed Sheeran (particularly tracks 1, 3, 4, 6, and 8).
FAVORITE COLOR: Different shades of green. I don’t typically find myself drawn to green but in the last year I have purchase various items (clothing and beyond) in the green color family. Particularly emerald/jewel tones of green have been my jam.
FAVORITE LESSON LEARNED: Don’t begrudge growing older…some people don’t have the opportunity. Aging is a gift. Thanks to my dear friend Katie for this reminder that spoke straight to my heart.
FAVORITE PRODUCT: The entire Kate Somerville line continues to impress me. It’s done wonders for my skin! My ride or die for awhile now has been the ExfoliKate daily cleanser.
FAVORITE DRINK: Found myself really enjoying various Rieslings this year. One of my faves is from Two Lads in Traverse City.
FAVORITE MOMENTS: Just like last year, it’s too tough to pick just one so I’m sharing a few…
Watching our nephews and niece grow up…hearing about what they are learning at school, discovering what they are passionate about, hearing their stories.
Goat cheesing, road tripping, ramping, and flower workshopping with my dear friend Abby to The Leland Lodge for a blogger retreat.
Time with Podcast Club chatting about our latest listens.
Watching Dougie in his work…he continues to inspire me with his tireless work ethic, approach, and kindness he employs in all aspects of his role.
Sunsets and sunrises from the porch at the lake with a cup of coffee in hand.
A weekend of soccer games and fun outings with family up in Wisconsin.
Partnering with Grand Traverse Resort for the perfect fall getaway.
Slow dinners with Doug, friends, and family celebrating some of the treasures of life: delicious food, strong drinks, meaningful company.
More than a perfect one, I hope that you had a formational year of growth. It’s profound to look back at a length of time to see just how far you have come personally, in your family, work, and beyond. I can’t say thank you enough for following along with my little corner of the internet. Hi there 2020, let’s do this…
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
Sincerely,
Ashley
