Small Town Traditions | Tulip Time in Holland
It’s one of the most magical times of the year…
Every May in Holland, Michigan, tulips arrive and the city feels extra alive. There’s sweeping of the streets, endless rows of brightly colored flowers dancing in the wind, and delicious Dutch food to enjoy. I have been to some part of Tulip Time almost every single year of my life since I was a kid. It’s a beautiful way to enjoy this lovely flower (with a fairly short window) and embrace the culture of a large part of my family.
There’s something about small town traditions that feel so special. The familiarity of them brings feelings of happy nostalgia that isn’t quite like anything else. It was one of the things that I missed the most when living in Chicago. The hustle and bustle of the city and the burbs that surround it is a different kind of special, but nothing like Tulip Time. After it being cancelled last year due to COVID, this year felt extra significant.
If you aren’t local or live in the area but have never been, make sure to mark your calendars for next year. And you can…because every year people will gather in their Dutch outfits, the tulips will pop up, the vendors will set-up, and you will find me there enjoying every piece of it.
If you haven’t already, visit the Tulip Time website to learn more about this special festival and check out the schedule of events. Enjoy tip toeing through the tulips my friends!
Sincerely,
Ashley
