Art Museums and Galleries in West Michigan
Art, art everywhere.
When it comes to art, we are pretty spoiled here in West Michigan. From Grand Rapids’ Artprize to galleries brimming with local artists, there are endless opportunities to enjoy (and purchase if you want) art. Some of my favorite afternoons have been spent wandering art museums. There’s something both peaceful and thought provoking about absorbing each artist’s vision as you stroll through.
I compiled a list of museums/galleries in the area for local friends and out of state guests to use as a guide for artistic adventures. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but a few of my favorites. They range from large scale museums to neighborhood galleries and everything in between.
I hope it inspires you to add a bit of art to your life. As the venerated Leslie Knope once said, “Good afternoon and good art.”

ARTPRIZE
Not a museum/gallery, but an international art competition that takes place in Grand Rapids each fall. Artists from all over the globe come to GR to display their works of art throughout the city. For almost 3 weeks, every medium imaginable can be found in buildings, on the sidewalk, adorning bridges, and beyond (in the river anyone?). As the world’s largest art competition, it’s pretty remarkable to see.
I hope you’re inspired as you check out these local spots. If there are other gems you enjoy within the art world please let me know!
Sincerely,
Ashley
