Black Calder Brewing: We Came. We Saw. We Cultured.
Couldn’t have had more fun with the guys behind Black Calder!
I had the honor to photograph the founders of Black Calder Brewing. It was great to chat with them about their product, what started their company, and how they continue to make needed waves throughout the industry. It was refreshing to hear them speak to what they were doing to increase representation and culture in this space (and beyond).
Their mission and story is based around “We Came. We Saw. We Cultured.” When you chat with them, you can feel how passionate they are about what they’re doing and what their work represents for the entire craft beer world. In their own words, here’s the heart of their brand:
We Came: For over a decade we visited and supported local breweries in Michigan while experimenting with our own home brews.
We Saw: The craft beer industry was full of flavor, community, and creativity. The passion that brewers, owners, and staff put in creating a unique experience was refreshing. What we didn’t see was diversity and things that spoke to the culture that we represent.
We Cultured: Black Calder Brewing Company was established to make great beer and provide a platform for innovation, art, culture, and inclusion through collaborations in the craft beer industry. As a Black Owned Brewery, our craft will be Brewed for the Culture, but our motto is simple. We make dope beer for dope people and always do it for the culture.
