Creative Rut Breaking Shoots
Crepes and phots, please.
Ever hit those creative ruts? I think anyone who does something in this realm has found themselves uninspired and frustrated. It’s easy to get stuck in the boxes that we have built for ourselves. In those boxes, even aspects of our work that we typically enjoy can start feeling like a list of frustrating, must-get-these-done tasks. My #1 suggestion whenever that happens is to go and do a photoshoot for f u n. Not for a brand, not with an agenda, just for the true creativity of it. I have always left these shoots feeling refreshed, inspired, and reinvigorated for all aspects of my client work and blog.
For this shoot, we planned to meet at Brown Butter which is a quaint creperie in Grand Rapids. Skies were grey and rain was quietly falling outside but inside it was snug and warm. The space has the most beautiful light thanks to black framed windows that basically serve as the walls to one entire side of the eatery. We crepe’d, we chatted, we snapped photos. It was just what the soul needed.
You don’t have to be a photographer…whatever feels freeing and creative to you, do that. Go read a book, knit, wander in the woods, paint, page through a magazine. Whatever speaks to your soul is what will most likely break you out of the rut that you’re stuck in.
