Unexpected Colors (and some Houndstooth)

Unexpected patterns + colors are always a fun choice.

I really enjoy and unexpected color and pattern combos when it comes to outfits. While I’m not a big pattern mixer like some of my talented friends (Lisa + Abby in particular), I do like to think outside of the box particularly when it comes to color and textures.

When I first saw this jacket, I was thinking of really basic businesswear with it: chinos, dress jeans, white oxfords etc. I liked the larger houndstooth pattern, and felt it would be a nice pop of color to otherwise neutral looks. When it came in the mail, it felt more lively than that. In a way, it’s a fairly standard trench, but the pink houndstooth gives it some sassy personality.

So, chinos and neutrals be gone, I paired it with this mustard skirt. Pink and mustard isn’t necessarily a color combo that I would naturally think of, but I enjoyed the contrast of it. One white shirt (tucked in), a pair of nude color ankle strap heels, sunnies, and a coffee later, I was ready for a day of running around.
