Old Hollywood, New Inspiration
There’s nothing like an empty photo studio…
The in-studio photos aren’t always my thing. There are talented photographers and models that create the most stunning imagery in this setting, but it isn’t my go-to. Their skill when it comes to this style of photography is inspiring.
I tend to learn more towards a lifestyle bend. I’m all about the outdoors, we-go-to-these-places-in-real-life locations that give the depth that I’m looking for. All that to say, it was a great creative challenge when my friend Darline and I reserved the studio to give us both time to shoot a few products for clients.
We both said we would jump in front of the camera for a few shots too. I tried to conceptualize and came up empty. I ended up throwing a collection of tops, sunglasses, jewelry, and other small accessories in a bag hoping that creative inspiration would move me when we got there. I ended up throwing this scarf on along with a pair of sunnies and going for an Old Hollywood look. Would you believe I had a t-shirt from their barbershop and athletic shorts on for this photo?
We had a blast figuring out ways to capture each other in this environment. Darline is a proficient studio photographer so I followed her lead. It was a reminder of the importance to engage with your work in ways that feels fresh and inspiring. I think the day to day grind of any job can dull the senses at times to the work itself. Routine is needed and lovely, but maybe not always fresh motivation. So, no matter what you do, think of a way to reengage to help you remember why you pursued that work in the first place.
For me, all it took was a blank studio, a fellow photography pal, and a good scarf.

What keeps you inspired in your work? How do you keep everything fresh in your day to day?
Sincerely,
