Tulle? Let Me Count the Ways...
How does one wear a tulle skirt. Let me count the ways…
I love tulle. To me, there’s something whimsical about the way it feels and moves. It reminds me of ballerinas doing a dance…except instead of an elegant dance it’s just me running into Target for toilet paper and unnecessary mugs.
Often when I post tulle skirts, I often get the comment from people that it’s cute, but they would never know how to wear it. While I 100% understand that it’s a bit outside of the pants/top norm, I do think they are more universal than people think. I wanted to provide some outfit ideas for tulle skirts (Amazon actually had a couple fun ones in a maxi and shorter length that come in a lot of colors) that might help you incorporate them into your day to day wardrobe.
OUTFIT 1 • KEEP IT SIMPLE
The outfit in this photo is a perfect example of simple ways to wear tulle. I wanted to let the skirt be the star of the show so I paired with a plain white shirt. Since it was bone cold, I wore my favorite red pea coat which happened to coordinate well. Some nude color flats finished the ensemble.
OUTFIT 2 • T-SHIRT TIIIME
Any Jersey shore fans will understand that reference (don’t judge the hot garbage that I watch on TV sometimes). I love dressing down tulle with a graphic tee and sneakers. It’s a simple way to keep it casual. My favorite pair of tennis shoes are a pair of Cole Haan sneakers. They’re the epitome of your standard sneak, but the perfect understated option with skirts.
OUTFIT 3 • ADD SOME COZY
Tulle can feel a bit more formal so a way to make it more cozy is wearing it with a sweater or flannel. A slouchy sweater or yummy flannel button up can add a level of comfort that changes the vibe of your entire outfit. Add some simple booties for footwear and you’re good to go. Worried it’s going to look too free flowing everywhere? Tuck the sweater in to bring some definition
OUTFIT 4 • GO FOR THE GOLD
Here’s the thing. While I think there’s ways to incorporate tulle into your daily looks, I understand there’s nothing subtle about them. They’re loud and proud (which is probably what I like about it)…so lean in. Wear it with a top that has a huge bow. Wear it with more ruffles or sparkling sequins. Wear it because you like it/feel good in it, no questions asked.
Life is far too short. Wear the tulle. The world is your runway my friends, walk it with pride.
Sincerely,
Ashley
